I worked for GE for 6 years and sadly never
had a chance to work in any of these departments. In the past few years GE has
gone through a lot of changes, they have been getting out of their more risky
GE Capital businesses (which revolve around the financial world) and have
focused more on the GE Industrial businesses. They did this because after the
recession, GE Capital crushed GE's stock with losses and they felt it was in
the best interest of shareholders to remove this volatility.
GE Capital Businesses - High risk, high
reward
GE Industrial Businesses - Lower risk, easier
to forecast growth
Now that GE is focusing on Industrial
businesses, they need to attract top talent, so they can keep evolving to
further grow the company. “We act. We
learn. We get better. We insist on being more than we are today. We are moving
forward to become the Digital Industrial. Join us as we create the next wave of
growth.” Jeff Immelt, 2015 CEO Letter.
Some other interesting things to think about
with GE:
·
They have been listed on the Dow Jones Index
for 120 years and paid a quarterly dividend for 100+ years (www.GE.com)
·
The GE conglomerate
consists of eight subsidiaries in different industries
o GE Aviation,
GE Capital, GE Global Research, GE Healthcare, GE Home & Business
Solutions, GE Oil & Gas, GE Power & Water, and GE Transportation
(finance.yahoo)
·
Has been a Fortune 500 company for 21 years (finance.yahoo)
What I find amazing about
GE is the fact they have been able to adapt their business for over 120 years.
Now you see them taking to social media like they own it. Hopefully they are a
company that is around for another 100+ years. All I know is in my mind, these
commercials crush it... What do you think?
'A snowballs chance in hell'
'Like talking to a wall'
'Catching lightning in a bottle'

All the videos made a pretty big impact, but the last video about the lightning was insane. Wow!
